Lawrence Matthew Ventline, a Catholic Priest was ordained June 4, 1976 for the Archdiocese of Detroit. He was professor of spiritual formation at Sacred Heart School of Theology in metropolitan Milwaukee after serving numerous Michigan parishes, including St. Christine, Detroit, Our Lady of Sorrows,Detroit, St. Raymond, Detroit, St. Joseph Parish, Lake Orion, St. Rene Goupil Parish, Sterling Heights, and concurrently, executive director of the ecumenical Michigan Coaliton for Human Rights in 1981. Father Ventline has taught at Madonna University, Baker College, Great Lakes College, Marygrove College and the Ecumenical School of Theology. Fr. Ventline has also served as pastor or associate pastor, or weekend assistant of several Detroit and Michigan parishes, including St. Christine, Detroit, St. Joseph, Lake Orion, Our Lady of Sorrows, Detroit, and St. Hyacinth, Detroit, Sacred Heart in Roseville, St. Dennis in Royal Oak. At Sacred Heart School of Theology in Milwaukee, Baker College, Marygrove College and the Ecumenical Theological Seminary, Detroit, Dr. Ventline has taught Spirituality and Recovery, Pastoral Sociology among other courses. He leads the Class in Acceptance, Women's Growth Group, Men's Support Group, SA 12 Step Group, and, Good Grief Group, Cafe Conversation and does indivudal and group counseling, and family aerobics in St. Donald, Roseville currently. He published Securing Serenity in Troubling Times (available from him or the Catholic Bookstore), framed in the famous Serenity Prayer of Reinhold Niebuhr, who had pastoral ties to Detroit, and Tale So True of My Christmas Tree (available at the Catholic Book Store (3130 962 4490).
The city of Detroit honored him with its Human Rights "Unsung Hero Award" in 1996. He was awarded the Authentic Writer's Prize in Milwaukee for a piece he wrote at the height of the Catholic Church's sexual abuse crisis in 2002.
